Lace Up! On Your Mark! Get Set! Northeast Region Steps Out For The Mary Kay Foundation℠

On the heels — literally! — of an uber-successful 9th Annual Northeast Branch MK5K®, supporters of The Mary Kay Foundation℠ are already on the move, gearing up their 2017 effort.

Register now to join hundreds of enthusiastic runners, walkers, Mary Kay Inc. employees, Mary Kay independent sales force members, community supporters and volunteers on Sept. 30, 2017, for the 10th anniversary of the MK5K® Fun Walk and Run at Colonial Park in Somerset, New Jersey.

Vice President and General Manager of the Northeast Branch Alex Walder states, “This annual event, planned and orchestrated by our Northeast Branch employees, continues to not only raise thousands of dollars for The Foundation, but raises the spirit of coming together as a team — Branch employees, the independent sales force and the community — in a fun, very worthwhile way.”

Spearheaded by the Northeast Branch Go-Give Spirit Committee, the 2016 MK5K® showcased their biggest endeavor yet. Branch employees, family, friends and local businesses donated immeasurable amounts of time, talents, food and prizes, raising $25,000 to support The Foundation’s critical efforts.

A pink, teal and white balloon arch over the race start line welcomed 175 onsite participants who received teal-colored shirts, raising awareness of ovarian cancer.

“Yearlong planning, preparation, and coordination was executed beautifully — despite the threat of rain, brisk winds and a significant chill in the air — making our 9th Annual MK5K® a great success,” adds Alex.

Michelle Seymour, customer service manager for the Northeast Branch remarks, “We all feel amazing camaraderie from pulling together for our shared mission.”

“It’s a cause near and dear to our hearts, and everyone loves helping,” adds Rita Fallon, data services coordinator for the Northeast Branch. “At the end of the day, it’s extremely heartwarming and fulfilling.”

“Mary Kay herself would be touched by the spirit, culture and Go-Give purpose that permeates these annual events!” exclaims Alex.

Since 2008, the Northeast Branch has donated $235, 696 to The Foundation. Come join the fun Sept. 30, 2017!

Can’t Make it to New Jersey? Be a Virtual Participant!

Further north, Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant Susan VanBenschoten and members of the Pink Asphalt Kickers raced around the picturesque streets of historic Sackets Harbor, New York, as virtual participants in the 2016 Northeast Branch MK5K®. Using social media, email and donations, the tenacious trekkers raised several thousand dollars toward the cause.

They were inspired when Mary Kay Independent Senior Sales Director Teri Nichols, Mary Kay Independent Sales Director Ericka Balch and Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant Judy Parker traveled to New Jersey for the 2014 MK5K®. The three brought the “fire” back to the north, and the Pink Asphalt Kickers from Central and Northern New York were launched, igniting a passion for The Foundation.

In 2015, an expanded group of 15 journeyed to the MK5K®. They claimed the top contributing team title by raising more than $12,000 that year and won a guided tour of the Northeast Branch facility given by Alex.

“We are impressed beyond belief by everyone we’ve met at the Northeast Branch,” states Grand Achiever Susan. “Alex graciously gave us a memorable tour, and we got to see first-hand how amazing the employees are!”

This determined team also hosts a relaxing overnight annual spa day to pamper their customers and introduce them to new Mary Kay® skin care products.

Over several years, the Pink Asphalt Kickers have generously contributed more than $25,000 to The Foundation.

“We’re a dedicated group, working hard to give back to The Foundation,” reinforces Foundation Ambassador and Mary Kay Independent Beauty Consultant Joan Hyde.

“We will continue to build from here and get even stronger,” emphasizes Susan, who is also a cancer survivor. “We're committed to be part of the solution to end domestic abuse and cancers affecting women!”
