Why I Can Change A Life And You Should Too

When I found the Childhood Domestic Violence Association, I knew I had found something special. You see, I've read all the statistics about what happens to children who grow up in a house filled with domestic violence. I wrote about them here. And I've seen it play out in families.

At The Mary Kay Foundation,℠ we're all about stopping domestic violence. We help women. We serve shelters. But to break the cycle, we must also reach the children. If we don't, the children are likely to continue the cycle. Because that's all they know.

After I took the Change A Life Program, I was convinced you needed to know about it.

Here's why:

1. It's free for our readers. And it only takes about 30 minutes. Yet this program will increase your knowledge about the effects of Childhood Domestic Violence (CDV) and give you greater confidence -- whether you are talking to children growing up in a violent home or supporting friends who previously did. It’s the first program of its kind in the world.

2. You can learn simple steps on how you can connect with children and help them overcome. Simple phrases like "You are not alone" or "This doesn't define you" can make a big difference. Offering to babysit or mentor children can change their future. I love that these steps aren't complicated.

3. You encounter people affected by domestic violence —whether you know it or not. The signs aren't always obvious. Once I learned about domestic abuse, I began to see it around me. At my kids' private school. At our church. Places I didn't expect.

4. You'll see there's hope. I was so inspired after taking Change A Life. We can break the cycle and help them reach their full potential. We can affect the children around us.

5. It's the Mary Kay way. Change A Life helps us change lives for the better. That's what we're all about! Mary Kay Ash continually taught us that we can overcome obstacles and use them to grow. Change A Life teaches us to empower these kids. Yes, they experience great difficulties. But they can rise above it. Through these obstacles, they can find inner strength.

6. You get this cool certificate.
