10 Thoughtful Gifts

When the most wonderful time of the year collides with cancer treatments, patients are in need of a little holiday cheer. I polled you, our readers, and family and friends for gift ideas. These were the most commonly mentioned.

So if you know someone going through cancer treatment, try these gift ideas to brighten up the holiday or any day!

  1. Biotene mouthwash and toothpaste. It's especially formulated to relieve dry mouth -- which is a common side effect of chemo.

  2. A mild baby wash that's gentle on delicate skin.

  3. Canned fruit (fresh may be too acidic).

  4. Meal-replacement drinks like Ensure.

  5. Head coverings: scarves or caps. Because it's no fun sleeping bald in the winter!

  6. Services. Offer to clean house, hire a maid service, bring a meal or run an errand.

  7. Keep in touch. Sometimes a card, text or call makes a big difference.

  8. A little entertainment. Inspirational or devotional books or iTunes gift cards can bring a welcome distraction.

  9. Moisturizer. Cold weather and chemo are not kind to skin.

  10. Soft blankets and fuzzy socks -- for treatment days and at home recovering.
